WaPo: Write-Your-Rep Tools Make 'A More Robust Democracy'

Last week, we mentioned the logic puzzles being deployed in the House of Representatives in order to frustrate online communications. This morning, Jeffrey Birnbaum of the Washington Post picks up the story.

"What we've been doing -- and what the [political] right has been doing -- contributes to a more robust democracy and it ought to be welcomed," said [Ralph] Neas of People for the American Way.

Telcos Win in House; Net Neutrality Moves to Senate

Late last night, the House of Representatives rejected the net neutrality amendment to the Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement (COPE) Act 269-152, then approved COPE with majorities of both parties.  It's a huge win for telcos, who have liberally lubricated the capital.  (How'd your rep vote on the amendment and on the un-amended COPE?)

Congress: Don't E-mail, Just Send Cash

A lively discussion has sprouted on the Progressive Exchange listserv this week following an announcement by the House of Representatives' Chief Administrative Officer that it's pioneered heretofore unseen frontiers in hampering constituent e-mail.

The name of the game -- quite literally -- is "logic puzzles": solve a test question to qualify for the right to talk to your elected representative. You can get a demo here.
