Mobile-ize, Organize, and Unionize: day-long training - 6/3 - NYC

We're excited about our upcoming event in NYC that we're putting on with Mobile Commons, Organizing 2.0, and the Metro New York Labor Communications Council. Together we've created a day-long training on June 3rd all about using mobile phone technology to beef up your organizing efforts: Mobile-ize, Organize, and Unionize.

With an agenda covering everything from the state of the technology and Salsa integration to list-building strategies and data tracking, attendees will be led through the intensive day of learning by some of the leaders of the mobile organizing sector:

  • Katrin Verclas, co-founder and editor at MobileActive.org
  • Rachel LaBruyere, director of Mobile Strategy at Mobile Commons
  • Reshma Mehta, Legislative Representative for AARP
  • Lisa Grob, Communications Manager for Online Activism in the Strategic Communications Department at the Laborer's International Union of North America
  • Jess Kutch, Director of Organizing for Economic Justice at Change.org

Although Mobile-ize, Organize, and Unionize is almost sold out, we ...

Salsa Highlight: Configuring a Double-Opt In Signup Page

Greetings!

It's the "Salsa Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.

This week, we thought we'd unpack a common question: how do you configure a double opt-in signup page?

By default, Salsa signup pages land a new signer-upper on your list with only a single-step opt-in: that is, as soon as your prospective supporter completes the page, s/he is on your list. No fuss, no muss!

However, you can choose to require a higher level of supporter permission by instead having your signup pages initiate one of those "are you sure you want to join this list?" emails. Your list will grow more slowly, but may comprise more motivated supporters.

Friday Fiesta: release processes, Adwords, and favorite fruits

Jake_kiwiI'm sure you missed the Fiesta. Even if you didn't, please pretend so I can feel all special and Friday-like.

Commons Comments

Jake's ditching Salsa's support team to lead our Training and Online Learning, and he's diving right in with our Third Thursday on May 19, at which we'll share more about our release process and some of our newest futures. Jake also used the words "nosh" and "victuals" in his blog post yesterday, so if you're strangely not interested in the presentation, enjoy the writing, anyways! Oh, also: farewell to Trina, former Manager of Training and Online Learning, thanks for existing, and best wishes for grad school. I'll try to get over these grudges as soon as possible.

Speaking of our release process, check out these notes from our most recent release.

Daniel has some questions about using Google Adwords with Salsa urls.

Third Thursday - May 19, 2011

Summer is a time for rolling out "the new you", and Salsa is no different! While we're still a month away from the first official day of summer, we want to show off some of our new swimsuit-ready features.

We'll be doing just that at our monthly Third Thursday on May 19th. We've released 8 updates to Salsa since 2011 began, and we want to give you the scoop on both how our release process works, as well as what the features are and how you can best utilize them in your campaigns.

Instead of our usual two hour session, we'll be cutting this one down to an hour, from 5pm to 6pm, and covering the following topics:
 - All about the Salsa release process
 - Electronic fund transfers
 - Group triggers
 - Single click events with Facebook integration

And as usual, we also want you to stick around for our happy hour! From 6-8:30pm, we'll have some great brews on tap, red and white wines, tasty nosh, sociable Salsa staff, and - of course - your fellow comrades in the progressive movement, all mixed and mingled for your enjoyment.

We want to hear from you - let us know you're coming by clicking here.

If you can't make it in person but want to hear more about our new features, register for our simulcast ...
