Your Correspondent Files from the NTC

NTEN's April newsletter hit the streets today, and dignified this humble author to share the stage with worthier luminaries in the nptech firmament. (Note to self: new mug shot. The best that could be said of this photo is that I look like the last black-and-white kid in Pleasantville.) A paragraph isn't enough to do justice to Michael Gilbert, but his workshop on "the Permeable Nonprofit" well deserved its buzz, and I hope I have not done it too much violence here.

Can't Make This Up Series: AOL Censors Target DearAOL

Strange thing happened on Thursday. Reports started cropping up about emails to aol.com addresses bouncing ... if they contained the dearaol.com url.

Stolen Playbook Series: Tax Freedom Day

Every year as tax time heaves into view, an outfit a few blocks down the street called The Tax Foundation announces something it calls "Tax Freedom Day®." Hot off the presses this morning, the foundation announced the date (April 26th) under the headline "America Celebrates Tax Freedom Day®." [yes, with the ®] This is the day of the year on which, supposedly, the government has finished engorging itself of the nation's revenues and the God-fearing folk can at last avail themselves meekly of some portion of their labor's fruits. Or to dumb it down even more:

Welcome Wagon: Dean Baker Blogs

Special welcome to the blogosphere to Dean Baker of DIA community member Center for Economic & Policy Research. After a decade persevering through the Job-like tribulations of correcting journalists' economic homework in the Economic Reporting Review mailing list (which has been one of my favorite Monday treats for years), Dean's rechristened it today as a blog:
