Salsa Weekly Highlight: Built-In Reports

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every week!)

Greetings!

It's the "Salsa Weekly Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.

You probably know that we on the Salsa team create many different built-in system reports. Up until now, to access those reports, it's been necessary to drop them onto your dashboard.

But I'm pleased to, ah, report that we've simplified the process of browsing and using those reports.

Get your video on

Over the next few weeks, we'll be launching several new available features for Salsa, provided by our development partners through the Salsa Marketplace. The first of these new features is the ability to embed video in emails to your constituents with Flimp Media.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth a million. Video allows you to quickly and clearly convey your message to your supporters in an exciting and engaging way. Our partners at Flimp Media have developed an easy way to post videos in your Salsa emails. The videos contain email address tracking just like our email hyperlinks, so you can easily find out which supporters are taking an interest in your message. Flimp has worked with both non-profits like United Way and political organizations like the Democratic Party of Virginia to develop video campaigns to promote fundraising and advocacy actions. As part of our partnership, they are offering a discount to Salsa users, so check them out!

If you have any questions about the Salsa Marketplace or Flimp videos, please send me an email at geoff@salsalabs.com!

We on the Salsa team could really use your input on how that event can serve you best.

Can you spare two or three minutes to complete a short survey? Your thoughts (even if you're not planning on attending) will be invaluable in making the 2010 Salsa Community Conference a great experience for all, and in helping all our partners and users continue to get the most from their online programs.

Salsa Weekly Highlight: New Custom Fields Tab in Supporter Records

Image: The new custom fields tab in your supporter records

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every week!)

It's the "Salsa Weekly Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.

This week's update rolled out just this morning.

In response to requests from you, our users, we've created a separate section for custom fields in your users' supporter records.

Now, when in an individual's supporter record, you'll see a Custom Fields tab in the left column, third from the top.

Say goodbye to browsing through our Salsa default fields any time you need to find your organization's custom fields. From now on, they're right at your fingertips.

Salsa Weekly Highlight: Avoid Composing in Microsoft Word

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every week!)

It's the "Salsa Weekly Highlight," your quick hit on what's what in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.

This week, I just wanted to remind you to avoid copying and pasting from Microsoft Word into Salsa (and probably into most any other online design tool you might use).

I know, I know. It looks like it should work. Lay out page in familiar Word interface, copy, paste it into web page or email blast. Easy, right?

Unfortunately, appearances are deceiving in this case.
