Honest Brokers

Trust us, yo.

Yesterday's USA Today bombshell about the National Security Agency's wholesale (and illegal) data-mining of domestic phone calls with the generous compliance of telcos forms a colorful backdrop to the latter's entreaties before Congress to scupper net neutrality.

(Bear in mind that this phone mining comes hard on the heels of the government's eyebrow-arching move to quash on national security grounds a class-action suit of the Electronic Frontier Foundation alleging that AT&T has been feeding the NSA its Internet traffic, too.)

Watching Cool Flash Counts As Work: Not Your Soldier

Our friend Jeanette at the National Forest Protection Alliance, who wears the DIA field rep hat from time to time as well, tipped us to this ass-kicking subversive Flash countering military recruitment and countenancing troop resistance. Aimed at the young, but all ages can enjoy. DIAniacs Ruckus Society and IndyVoter are among the sponsoring organizations for notyoursoldier.org.

Bonus: Rare footage of Joe Lieberman and John Cornyn in white hats. Off-white, anyway. Call it whalebone.

С днем победы!

"The Saved World Remembers," drawn from a photo of the Soviet flag raised over the Reichstag.
That's Happy Victory Day to you, a good day to stand a drink for any Russian who happens to cross your path.

With D-Day imminent, speechwriters hereabouts are limbering up their "Greatest Generation" cliches (perhaps for the purpose of belittling said generation). But it takes nothing from those who forced Omaha Beach to acknowledge that it was Soviet blood that won the war ... and this is the day to honor those who bled to shatter Naziism.
