Salsa Highlight: SYBUNT and LYBUNT donor queries

Greetings!

It's the "Salsa Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.

Salsa's Query tool has grown to incorporate a number of donor-query options that you might want to be aware of heading into the second half of the year. It's never too early to start planning for those crucial year-end donations.

SYBUNT, LYBUNT, and other nifty donor queries

Assuming you're making use of Salsa Donations, you should see these choices when you go to the Supporter tab and build a new Query that uses Donation History.

A picklist lets you query for donors in many different ways. It's the options in the lower half of this list that are the newest and potentially most powerful features.

These tools should let your development team identify by name and/or target for email important segments of high- or lower-performing donors.

Notes from NOI's Bootcamp 2011

What a summer it's been!

We've already talked about the whirlwind experience of going to conferences like the Personal Democracy Forum (PDF) in New York and Netroots Nation in Minneapolis, and just this past weekend, my fellow Account Executive, Eric Rubin, and I helped train the next generation of progressive leaders at the New Organizing Institute's New Media Bootcamp 2011. All of the campaign teams used Salsa's toolset for their online organizing and outreach.

Eric and I utilized our experience working with nonprofits and political campaigns respectively to teach a group of about fifty passionate organizers about the details of what it's like to lead an organization's online operation. I taught the basics of HTML and how to see the meaning behind the code, and Eric taught folks about how to get the most out of Salsa, tweaking templates and constructing pages and then entire campaigns.

Every year, we help out at Bootcamp and I have to say that every year, it gets even more humbling to be given the honor of training the best and the brightest. Good luck out there, Bootcampers, and you can follow their campaigns at the Twitter hashtag #bootcamp5!

Mixing up a fresh batch of Salsa trainings in July

We've alluded to it over the past few weeks and now without further adieu, we want to let you know about some big changes to our webinar training series.

For the month of July and onward, we're moving away from our package/feature-based webinars - those that review how to use only one particular tool at a time. Instead, we'll be presenting three types of webinars: interactive trainings which focus on how everyday organizers actually learn to use Salsa, new feature release reviews, and Friday Free-for-Alls.

First, our training webinars: These webinars will follow a logical progression as you learn, and key in newer organizers to some best practices in the online world.

Starting off with our Salsa 101 training, we'll be sure to keep things uncomplicated and to the point - learning how to add supporters, create sign-up pages for organic growth, and email those supporters.

From there, we'll share some Mild Salsa with you and open things up to the skill sets necessary for a full campaign - setting up advocacy and donation pages, dropping them into your emails, and tracking your campaign's performance.

Our Medium Salsa training will focus on event management, social network and sharing tools and best practices, and long-term strategies and tools for ...
