Salsa Weekly Highlight: Manage Exports

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every Wednesday!)

Welcome back from Thanksgiving (for those who observe it), and welcome back to the 'Weekly Salsa Highlight,' your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program.

You can always get news, updates, and conversation on Salsa Commons. Salsa staff frequently post there as well, both to answer questions and to flag new feature developments.

Support specialist Anupama Pillalamarri did just that recently with a post on how to Manage Exports, a tool that automates Salsa's data reporting processes.

Manage Exports

If you've installed the newest version of the Supporter Query Tool package, you'll find the link right below the row of tabs on your Salsa Screen: "manage exports."

Manage Exports screenshot

Salsa has long enabled you to schedule recurring exports of both queries and reports. The Manage Exports feature makes it simple to see at a glance what recurring exports are running in your account.

  • To delete, reschedule, or otherwise edit an existing export, click "manage exports," pick your scheduled export from the list, and go from there!
  • To build new exports directly from this section, click "Add an export." (As always, you can still build saved exports from the query and report tools, too.)

If you're already using scheduled exports, the Manage Exports area should streamline the process. If you're not yet taking advantage of this oft-overlooked feature, this is the perfect time to start! Give it a whirl, and give your whole team the holiday gift of timely information.

Thanksgiving Salsa: Fresh Jobs

It's a light week with (U.S.) Thanksgiving bringing food, family, and football this week. Salsa offices will be closed on both Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th, and there are no trainings at all this week.

We'll be right back at it next week, though, when the calendar turns over to December and the critical fundraising home stretch.

And maybe there'll be a few new faces at the table, too. Maybe ... yours?

Salsa Labs (the company that provides organizing technology to DemocracyInAction and Wired For Change) has a whole slew of job opportunities for at least 9 exceptional individuals.

Those who join our team will have the opportunity to work with some of the most effective nonprofits and political campaigns by developing, supporting, and training on the Salsa organizing platform -- with the DLCC, DCCC, DSCC, Emily's List, Moms Rising, True Majority, Brave New Films, Oceana, and a slew of other creative organizations and brilliant online organizers working on the most pressing issues of the day. (International organizations, too.)

It's a great time to join the team as

  • Director of Nonprofit Business Development
  • Salsa Enterprise & Node Manager
  • Political Business Development Associate
  • Salsa Support Specialist
  • UI Engineer
  • Online Community Manager
  • Software Engineer
  • Systems Administrator - Entry Level
  • Lead Product Manager

We operate with the soul of a nonprofit and the savvy of a business.  People who thrive here are those who enjoy doing good in a fast-moving (sometime chaotic) working environment that’s always focused on growing and achieving results.

We pride ourselves on our team of talented, driven, entrepreneurial individuals -- each of whom is deeply committed to the organizations which we serve and advancing our progressive ideals. We also have a workplace that values work/life balance, creativity and innovation. That combination is the key to our success and makes Salsa Labs not only an excellent place to work, but a highly efficient and productive company.

Wired for Change and DemocracyInAction are equal opportunity employers and seek to build a diverse staff representative of the communities they serve. Women, minorities, LGBT are strongly encouraged to apply.

In additional to our casual work environment we have an excellent benefits package that includes:

  • 3 weeks of paid vacation (4 weeks after two years)
  • 14 paid holidays (includes 3 days between Christmas and New Year's)
  • Paid sick leave
  • Paid time off for volunteer opportunities
  • CareFirst Health and Dental insurance
  • Flex Time / Telecommuting options
  • Metro SmartBenefits<
  • 401K with percentage matching benefits

Please send a cover letter describing your interest and qualifications, your resume (in .doc or pdf format), plus salary requirements to: jobs@wiredforchange.com; No phone calls please.

Powerful new free petition tool launched by Change.org, powered by Salsa

Free petition tools have long lineage on the Internet; they're one of the evolutionary forebears of comprehensive online communications platforms like Salsa.

So it was only fitting when Change.org went looking to bring the boring standalone online petition out of the Stone Age that it looked to Salsa for some tools beyond a stone wheel and a mastodon-bone club.

Behold: the just-launched Change.org petition, the most powerful online petition tool on the web.

In addition to a friendly interface that Change.org built, it's got a hook to the Salsa back end for add-ons like district-matched message targeting, so that petition signers' messages go straight to the people that need to hear them.

This, of course, comes standard with all the usual petition tools too, plus login access for the petition creator to manage the petition drive. Take it for a spin here.

Salsa Weekly Highlight: Facebook Connect debuts on redesigned Salsa Commons

Salsa Commons login panel

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every Wednesday!)

Welcome to the 'Weekly Salsa Highlight', your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program.

You can always get news, updates, and conversation on Salsa Commons. In fact, this week, Salsa Commons itself is the weekly highlight!

There's a new, streamlined look at SalsaCommons.org, and the new login features allowing you to sign into the site with Facebook, OpenID, Google, Yahoo!, or AOL.

Just click the "login" link in the upper left, sign in with your Facebook or other ID, and post or comment freely. (Naturally, you can keep using your regular Salsa ID, too.)

We'll be rolling this great new feature out to all our user organizations for use with their own supporters in the coming weeks. But now's your chance to get a sneak preview of it by trying it out on Salsa Commons!

The rest of the Salsa Commons homepage has a crisp new look and feel, too, with:

  • A rotating banner of current highlights
  • Quick documentation links in the left column
  • Email signup in the upper left-hand corner to receive one or all of our regular Salsa emails

We hope you'll enjoy the ease of having the most popular current features right at your fingertips every time you visit, and the convenience of participating in the Salsa community with the same identity management tools you're already using elsewhere. Come on by and check out the changes!
