Really? You're Interested in ME?

Taking an interest in your partner has long been sound practice in matters of the heart (and the flesh).  Mandate Media's Politics & Technology has a great post underscoring how powerful it is in the less pheromonal sphere of supporter engagement.

For the mileage available from the very simplest level of interactivity -- asking a few questions, and showing some evidence of noticing the answers -- it's another way of saying that it's the strategy that counts most, not the tools.  It's easy to get caught up thinking that the "web activism" tools with a lot of moving parts are the heart of an online presence and forget that plenty of people would rather have a relationship with a cause they care about than write to Congress or send an e-postcard.

Logic Puzzles Put Congressional Mail Delivery On The Table

The "logic puzzles" recently deployed by a few House of Representatives offices to hinder constituent communications have had the happy effect of kick-starting wide-ranging conversations on the too-long-dormant question of the whole congressional message delivery regime -- a case where path dependency has forced the whole space into a communications model markedly inapt for everyone involved.

The major vendors (including DemocracyInAction) have formed a steering committee to work with Congressional IT staff, which are themselves evaluating their approach and seemingly open to discussing win-win solutions to the current technological mess.

Idealware Asks: Which Blog Tool To Use?

Another catch-up entry -- Idealware, the invaluable Consumer Reports of nonprofit technology, recently issued the latest in its series of reports on website tools: Getting Started With Blogging Software, which compares features for seven of the most popular blogging applications.*

Great place to start for an NGO or anyone considering whether to blog, or frustrated by the limitations of what they're using now, or just staying abreast of the options.  Idealware has previously issued similar reports on e-mail newsletter tools and donations tools.
