Eventful June

June hails the advent of intern season, and a fistful of prog-tech-nonprofity events with which to festoon your day planner.

June 2:  Al Gore's flick An Inconvenient Truth opens nationwide.  Its relevance to the rehabilitation of Gore's persona and resurrection of his political ambitions have been widely discussed; even before its opening, it's become a sort of progressive public manifesto thanks in no small part to its innovative online marketing.  (Just incidentally, DIA members Stop Global Warming are getting traffic from the flick's web site.)

June 8-11: YearlyKos, Las Vegas. See what happens when the big blog city meets in the flesh, and on the strip. Registration packets to include troll-rating stickers you can slap on each other's name tags? DIA users Young Democrats of America are piggybacking with their own separate but simultaneous conference in Sin City.

June 10: Craigslist Foundation nonprofit boot camp, New York. An all-day event for only $50.

June 12-14: Take Back America conference, Washington, D.C. Cap it off by walking two blocks down Connecticut for ...

June 14: DemocracyInAction's office warming party.

June 17: Organizers' Collaborative Grassroots Use of Technology Conference, Boston. DIA is a co-sponsor.

And though not the kind of event with pastries and branded beer cozies, keep in mind ...

June 30: The last day of TechSoup's fiscal year. For many (though not all) of the companies that provide the deeply discounted software TechSoup offers nonprofits, the per-organization quota of software resets on July 1, which means that June is a good month to snap up any applications you've been thinking about buying without prejudicing your access for the year ahead. Details here.

P.S. -- no day to circle on the wall planner yet, but the net neutrality fracas figures to come to a head this month, too. The latest, as always, at SaveTheInternet.
