What About The Kids?

In November, all 120 seats in the state Legislature are up for grabs. This is a critical election. The outcome will have a huge impact on how the state sets policy and funds programs for children and families for years to come.

Advocates for Children of New Jersey wants to make sure the candidates make children a focus of their campaigns. So please join us in making a difference for kids in this important election by asking one critical question:  What About the Kids? This campaign builds on our 2009 initiative that succeeded in raising the visibility of children’s issues in the gubernatorial election.

New ACNJ report shows how schools can give breakfast to hungry kids

A new ACNJ report on school breakfast is slated for release on September 28. The report documents New Jersey’s low rate of participation in this critical nutritional program and details easy ways that districts with large populations of low-income students can expand participation – often without any extra cost.

We will be asking state leaders and advocates around the state to step up and help more kids get this healthy nutritional start to their school day, which research shows can improve academic success. Stay tuned!

NJ Moves up National Kids Count rankings; but more NJ children in poverty

New Jersey ranked 5th nationwide in key indicators of child health and well-being, up from 7th last year, in the recently-released national 2011 Kids Count Data Book. The report shows, however, that many more NJ children are growing up in poverty and 136,000 have been affected by foreclosures.
