Help a child keep a healthy smile today!

Did you know that tooth decay is the leading chronic childhood disease in the United States and even more common than asthma? Give Kids a Smile Day will be once again celebrated on Friday, February 3, 2017.   On that day you can help children across New Jersey get access to dental care they cannot otherwise afford.  Click here to read more and to access helpful tips.

NJ Department of Education working on "Every Student Succeeds Act" plan
The latest revision of the nation's federal education law, the “Every Students Succeeds Act,” (ESSA) became law last year.  Since then, NJ DOE has been busy developing a state plan that outlines how our state will implement the new law. NJ DOE will be submitting its plan in early April, and hopes to schedule hearings in February to attain public input.  The final plan will be implemented during the 2017-2018 school year.

Since September, NJDOE has engaged a diverse group of education stakeholders, including ACNJ, to participate in an ESSA Stakeholder Focus Group to assist in the plan’s development. The group has been meeting regularly to discuss such issues as accountability, the implementation of standards and assessment. ACNJ is strongly advocating for the inclusion of early childhood education as part of the plan, as well as making chronic absenteeism one of the indicators in measuring student success. We will keep you informed when opportunities for public comment are announced.
