ACNJ celebrates Week of the Young Child

Throughout NJ, child care providers and preschools are acknowledging the importance of early learning. Members of ACNJ’s staff have attended several events, visiting preschool programs with members of the NJ Legislature and raising awareness about the cost of quality child care.

Senator Ruiz praises teachers!

Essex County’s Resource and Referral Agency, Programs for Parents held their annual breakfast today at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center to celebrate The Week of the Young Child.  This year’s theme, “Birth to 8-Make it Great!” highlighted the importance of quality early learning experiences beginning when a child is first born.  Senator Teresa Ruiz (D-29), was the keynote speaker, and praised the hundreds of men and women who educate our young children every day. Ruiz began her career as an early childhood teacher, and said, “My advocacy for children started in a classroom.”

If your center or organization is doing anything to celebrate The Week of the Young Child, please share photos and comments with ACNJ.

Spread the word about NJ's Family Leave Program

Did you know NJ has a paid family leave program? Workers are allowed 6 weeks to take care of a new child or a sick family member while collecting a portion of their wages. For more information about our state’s family leave program visit the NJ Department of Labor’s website and the Time to Care Coalition’s website. Be informed and please share this information with family, friends and colleagues.

The National Center for Children in Poverty issued a report and recommendations about NJ’s Family Leave Insurance Program in March.
