Dear Supporter,

Contact congress today!

LIFT caps on non-discretionary funding that have dramatically limited investment in the programs that support children and their families and disproportionately placed the burden for our country’s deficit reduction on the backs of our most vulnerable -- CHILDREN.
In real dollars, discretionary funding for early care and learning programs has remained stagnant for 10 years.

Your Members of Congress are heading home for the August recess and once again children are left hanging in the balance.

In 2013,  funding caps on certain non-defense programs were put in place to help reduce the deficit. These caps prevent thousands of young children from accessing critical supports such as child care, Early Head Start and Head Start, Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and many others.  Access to these programs is essential to ensure vulnerable children get a strong start in life.

The ability to change the course is in Congress’ hands – they can lift the caps and ensure funding for these vital supports is at a level that will adequately meet the needs of children and families.

During the August recess, call, send an email, Tweet, or Facebook your Members of Congress. Urge them to lift the caps and increase investments in programs that support vulnerable children and families.

Sincerely,

Cecilia Zalkind
