Advocates for Children of New Jersey

Please share your story with New Jersey foster youth.

June 10, 2014

You are cordially invited to join us on June 23 to help educate NJ foster youth transitioning out of the system about the legislative process.

These promising young people are participating in a state-funded advocacy training program. As part of their studies, the students will visit the Statehouse on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are asking lawmakers to take a few minutes out of their busy day to talk to these youth about the legislator's role in formulating public policy.

If you are interested, please e-mail me at mcoogan@acnj.org. We will be in Room L-103 and can be flexible with the time that you come to speak to the students. (Senator Vitale is working with Advocates for Children of New Jersey and the Office of Child Welfare Initiatives at the Rutgers University School of Social Work in setting up this exciting day.)

These 60 students are involved in two programs. The Summer Housing and Internship Program (SHIP), an 11-week summer program that provides housing, paid internships, classes and other supports on the three Rutgers campuses and at Montclair State University. The Summer Internship Program (SIP) is an 11-week internship and academic enrichment program that operates on the Rutgers Camden, Newark and New Brunswick campuses.

I am teaching the Special Topics in Advocacy course in New Brunswick. If you have any questions, please contact me via email at mcoogan@acnj.org.

We hope you can join us at the Statehouse on June 23rd!

Sincerely,

Mary Coogan
Assistant Director
