Dear Supporter:

The NJ Department of Children and Families is attempting to further limit the information that can be released to the public and the media when a child dies or nearly dies due to abuse or neglect.

ACNJ just submitted comments strongly opposing this proposed change to state regulations. In fact, we argued that the state should release more information in these cases. This position is consistent with the intent of federal law.  The goal is not to place blame, but to learn from these terrible tragedies in a public and transparent way. This can help improve the safety of children across New Jersey.

Please take a quick minute to speak up for kids on this critical issue. Send a message today to DCF Commissioner Allison Blake, urging her to reconsider this ill-conceived proposal.

In some of these tragic cases, the state may have taken all the right steps to safeguard a child. But we will not know unless details about these cases are revealed. Send your message to the commissioner today to strengthen the accountability of New Jersey’s child protection system so we can learn from our mistakes and prevent future child deaths.

Sincerely,

Cecilia Zalkind
Executive Director
