Justice in Aging Webinar on Elder Financial Abuse and Medicaid Denials

Justice in Aging is holding a webinar on Wednesday, May 17th at 2:00pm ET regarding Elder Financial Abuse and Medicaid Denials.  For low-income older adults who rely on Medicaid for their long-term care, financial exploitation can be devastating.  In some cases, older adults who are victims of financial abuse have been denied Medicaid eligibility because their abuser will not turn over their bank records.  Losing Medicaid eligibility can mean some older adults can no longer pay for their nursing home care and can be threatened with eviction or involuntary discharge.  This webinar will cover how to identify victims of elder financial abuse, what problems exploitation can cause with Medicaid eligibility, and how legal services attorneys can help clients receive Medicaid benefits.  Register here.

It's Older Americans Month!

Older Americans Month (OAM), led by the Administration for Community Living, is a time to celebrate older Americans, their stories, and their contributions.  The annual observance offers a special opportunity to learn about, support, and recognize our nation’s older citizens. This year’s theme, “Age Out Loud,” emphasizes the ways older adults are living their lives with boldness, confidence, and passion while serving as an inspiration to people of all ages.  OAM 2017 focuses on how older adults in our community are redefining aging—through work or family interests, by taking charge of their health and staying independent for as long as possible, and through their community and advocacy efforts.  Get involved by completing the sentence "I age out loud by..." and sharing a selfie with your statement.  Find more information on the OAM website.
