Study on CNA Responses to Resident-to-Resident Mistreatment

New free articles are available in the New Lens on Aging.  Of particular note is an article from the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect - "Staff-reported Strategies for Prevention and Management of Resident-to-resident Elder Mistreatment in Long-term Care Facilities."  The study interviewed 282 certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in five nursing homes about their responses to resident-to-resident elder mistreatment of residents under their care.  CNAs reported their most common responses as phsyically intervening/separating residents, talking calmly to settle residents down, no intervention, and verbally intervening to defuse the situation.  CNAs did not often document behaviors or report them to nurses.
