Materials Available from Resident-to-Resident Mistreatment Webinar

Materials are available from the webinar "Resident-to-Resident Elder Mistreatment in Nursing Homes: Findings from the First Prevalence Study."  This webinar, hosted by Consumer Voice in collaboration with the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA), discussed resident-to-resident mistreatment and how to prevent and respond to these incidents.

Dr. Karl Pillemer, Director, Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research, Hazel E. Reed Professor in the Department of Human Development, Professor of Gerontology in Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College, shared findings, recommendations, and best practices from his research regarding the prevalence of resident-to-resident elder mistreatment in nursing facilities. Consumer Voice staff shared information and resources to help increase awareness of these incidents and demonstrate how individualized care is critical in preventing and responding to resident-to-resident mistreatment.

The slides for this webinar can be downloaded as a PDF and the recording is available here.  Delve deeper into these issues and find more information about person-centered care and abuse prevention on our website including: Put a STOP to Poor Care (brochure and webinar).

Fact Sheet and Chart Review Supports for Older Adults in 2017 Budget

The White House has released a fact sheet on the President’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Budget.  According to the “Supporting Older Americans" fact sheet, the budget takes a number of steps in creating opportunity for older Americans, including protecting Social Security and Medicare for future generations; expanding the earned income tax credit for older workers; protecting worker pensions; and providing housing for the elderly.  Read the full fact sheet here.  In addition, the Elder Justice Coalition has prepared a chart comparing funding levels for Older Americans Act (OAA) and related programs from FY 2012 up to, and including, the President’s FY 2017 budget.  You can access the chart here.  Funding for the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program would not be increased under the President’s proposed budget.
