Thumbs Up

Last night I joined roughly 30 of D.C.'s young professionals at Mark and Orlando's to watch Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price. I was impressed--mostly by the number of people that came out on a rainy night to see a documentary about Walmart. The organization of over 100,000 activists is, as Jim Gilliam of Brave New Films puts it, the largest grassroots mobilization in movie history.

This experience with the Walmart movie sets a new precedent for the integration of online and offline activism. Through their online events tool, Brave New Films was easily able to not only promote their event and ask volunteers to screen their movie, but capture the email addresses of most of the attendees through RSVP's. Tada--you now have a rather large list of supporters, so what to do with them? I watched, I'm invested and I'm waiting for my follow up action alert.

As for the movie, you'll have to see it for yourself. Reviews are welcome in our comments section.
