Salsa Weekly Highlight: Updates for DirectoriesSubmitted Thu Jun 10 2010 15:16:00 GMT-0400 (EDT) by Leslie Hall

It's the "Salsa Weekly Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.
Everyone here is busily gearing up for the 2010 Salsa Community Conference later this month, but that hasn't stopped us continuing our user interface updates in the "Website Management" features. This week, it's Directories' turn for a makeover.
You should see this upgrade in your Website Management tab immediately. (No need to install anything; it's automatic.)
Directories are an unusual type of page that enable you to create a public search interface for one of your Salsa Groups. They're handy for creating searchable lists of affiliates or partners.
To use Directories, just select a Group that the Directory will interface, then customize header messages and available Sales fields for a search page, a results page, and an individual results detail page.
Obviously, it's important to respect your users' privacy and comply with good permissioning standards. Think carefully about who you're making publicly visible and why before you choose to do so.
The Directories feature set is not changing ... only the headquarters interface for creating and editing them.
Hey, this isn't new!
As with the other Website Management deployments over the past month, this upgrade actually standardizes the Directory Pages tool across all Salsa installations. So if this doesn't look new to you, it's probably because your configuration has already been using the most up-to-date version. Never fear: you're not missing out on anything!
We're still not quite done with Website Management updates, so keep an eye out for those over the next couple of weeks.
And as always, we're eager to hear your feedback on these (or any other) Salsa features.
Have a great weekend!
P.S. -- Hope to see you in Washington, D.C. later this month for the 2010 Salsa Community Conference!
