Understanding Import Error Messages
Submitted Tue Dec 02 2008 00:00:00 GMT-0500 (EST)Occasionally you might attempt to import a file and get an error message, or maybe you complete the import but notice that there are error messages associated with the import. This blog post is a brief summary of what these different errors mean.
Error messages when you try to reach step two of the import process:
Several things can cause this. If the error specifies a problem with the file type, make sure you aren't trying to import an excel file that isn't saved in tab or comma delimited format. Salsa only allows data saved in comma, tab, pipe, hash, or double hash delimited formats. If you accidentally tried to import a file saved as .xls, that is most likely why you are seeing an error. Just check your file type to confirm it is a format that is acceptable.
If you see an error like this:
There was an error processing your file. Not writable: /dia/codejava/sites/org2/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/organizationsORG2/1234/lists/
It is likely a bug that we need to fix from our end. Just contact support and we'll be glad to help.
Error messages on the "View Import Status" page:
On some occasions when you import data into Salsa you will see that even though your data was successfully imported, errors will appear under the "Error Message" column on the import status page.
Sometimes even Salsa indicates there were errors, the problem was something as simple as the fact that your file had extra blank lines at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Of course, it could be something more serious than that. It is always good to do a spot check, and if you have concerns, contact support and we can find out the cause of the error message.
