An NTC Kaleidoscope
An NTC Kaleidoscope

With apologies that fatigue and connectivity issues (I think every tech conference I've been to this year has had wireless problems ...), a few random snippets from the Nonprofit Tech Conference.
Wednesday, April 4 Vendor fair. No iPods won (note: for a Nano, I'll link to Satan himself), but an adequate haul of swag -- GoLightly has the stroke of genius with shot glasses for which their moniker is singularly apt. (But why do they come containing jelly beans?) DIA and PICnet collaborate on a good way to use them: the unofficial NTC drinking game (.pdf), readily adaptable to all manner of similar events. Our table gives away Salsa. With a smile. Kintera is in the vendor hall, but my premature report that the Sphere had ceased to sponsor this event turns out to be true after all. Moi receives the first epaulets of any sort to adorn the DIA blog -- as Most Likely to Win a Pulitzer (they know how to sop my pretensions, these nptechies) in the humbling company of Beth Kanter and Gavin Clabaugh, among whom I am the plain upstart. Marisa Tomei is my hero. This is an NTENny ... clever. The after-party detonates a guacamole bomb in the DIA world headquarters. No kegstands are attempted, or at any rate no witnesses survive.
Thursday, April 5 Morning plenaries are more appealing at the distance of an elevator ride, as opposed to the more considerable hurdle of Metro's doubtful schedule, especially given the Animal House state of the office. (Next year, in New Orleans.) Beth Kanter delivers herself of a tour de force on screencasting. Naturally, everything from and about it is immediately available online. It is quite possible that Beth is some manner of prototypical superhuman android sent from the future to bring nonprofit tech. Marty Kearns of Green Media Toolshed talks about how networks change everything for nonprofits. There's an after-party. I'm exhausted. I go home and watch Reds.
Friday, April 6 I get busy with a penguin. But the penguin wants to see other people. Madeline Stanionis is one efficient M.C. Can we get her on the Oscars? Nice panel about radio, online and off, not a subject of expertise for me and therefore particularly worth the while. Weekend's almost here, but they've cunningly stashed at the end a mobile panel I've been waiting for all week. A very tight debut by the Verclas regime. But I'm ready for my vacation.
