Salsa 1.8.6Submitted by Lin Thu Apr 14 2011 18:15:00 GMT-0400 (EDT)
We unleashed a monster of a release today. It's the cute and awesome kind of monster, though, in case you were worried. It has size: 26 features or bug fixes plus a a few more making our back-end processes more efficient. It has color, lots of color, as every major tool in Salsa has been updated in some way. And, like all awesome monsters, it has some power. Which brings me to this release's highlight.
Electronic Fund Transfers
Salsa has long been able to process electronic credit card donations from your supporters via manual entry in the Salsa HQ or a public facing page, but there are some situations when a supporter either can't or won't give with a credit card. The alternatives in this ranged from frustratingly multi-part ("please snail mail your check to...") or downright unacceptable ("We can't accept your donation...").
We now offer another solution: Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT). Any supporter with a checking account can fill out the appropriate part of the donation page and ...voila!... donation made.
Now, there are a few steps and conditions for all this to happen, so allow me to give a quick primer on setting up EFT processing for your organization:
First, you'll need to have a Paypal account. Unfortunately, Paypal is the only merchant gateway integrated with Salsa that allows EFT. You'll also need to make sure ACH payments are set up in your Paypal account. Please see their documentation on how to do this.
Then contact Salsa Support and ask to have the EFT package installed on your account.
Once this has been done, open up the Salsa workflow for the donation page you wish to enable with EFT. Go to the "Amounts" tab -- this is the place where you determine if you want to accept recurring donations or change the amount totals that appear on the page. There's a new checkbox there, right above the Merchant Gateway dropdown that looks like this:
Check that box and you're done.
On the supporter-facing page will be another checkbox labeled "I would like to write a check." If your supporter selects that option, the credit card information disappears and the necessary account and bank routing number boxes appear.
EFT is a pretty big deal, we think, but we released a lot more than just that. You can peruse the full list here. We'll have another release and update in a few more weeks, so stay tuned.
