Hold A&L Poultry Accountable for Starving 50,000 Hens

In February of 2012, A&L Poultry - a central California egg farm - abandoned the 50,000 caged hens on their farm. The hens were left without food for two weeks, leaving nearly 20,000 dead.

With cooperation from the local animal control agency, custody of the healthiest hens were signed over to Animal Place and Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary. With the help of Farm Sanctuary and multiple other organizations, 4,460 hens were saved. Of those, 4,100 were taken to Animal Place's two sanctuaries. The rescue is the largest ever of farmed animals in California history.

On May 17th, 2012, Animal Place, Farm Sanctuary and Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary filed a complaint in the Stanislaus County Superior Court, seeking justice for the 50,000 hens abandoned and allowed to starve at A&L Poultry. The complaint was filed on behalf of Animal Place, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary and Farm Sanctuary, all of whom have had to take on the responsibility of caring for the 4,460 surviving hens.

The sanctuaries are being represented by the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) Schiff Hardin.

Sign and help hold A&L Poultry accountable for their actions resulting in the incredible suffering of 50,000 helpless hens. Signatures will be delivered to the appropriate recipient, when necessary.

A&L Poultry must be held legally accountable for abandoning 50,000 hens to starvation, resulting in incredible suffering. Animal Place, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary, and Farm Sanctuary shouldered the egg producer’s legal duty to care for their animals. Please ensure that A&L Poultry is held responsible for their actions.
