Take Action Now! You took action, and your lawmakers listened. As a 99th district resident, in the next few days you can play a key role in saving a law that would increase voter participation and make the voter rolls more accurate. The Better Government Association supports AVR and is member of the Just Democracy coalition, the group that led the way in moving AVR forward. Take Action Now! As a 20th district resident, in the next few days you can play a key role in saving a law that would increase voter participation and make the voter rolls more accurate. The Better Government Association supports SB250 and is member of the Just Democracy coalition, a coalition made up of 18 civic, coalition, religious, civil rights, and community organizations. An additional 50 organizations have endorsed this effort. AVR was adopted by the legislature last Spring with broad bipartisan support and your representative, Representative McAuliffe, voted for it. However the Governor vetoed the bill. Governor Rauner has been clear that he agrees with a need to adopt appropriate reforms to modernize our election system. The sponsors of SB250 reflected this desire by drafting the measure in an open fashion with a wide range of input and it passed with bipartisan support. Advocates and election officials are confident that the Governor's concerns are answered in the wording of the bill that was passed. Illinois has an opportunity to be a national leader. Contact your Representative and ask that they take action to institute automatic voter registration. Judy Stevens |
Take Action Now! You took action, and your lawmakers listened. Now the Illinois General Assembly is considering a crucial bill that will guarantee the preservation of police misconduct complaint records. But we need your help to make sure it passes. Will you email your elected officials and demand they pass HB 6266, which will ensure the permanent preservation of police misconduct complaint records? |
Take Action Now! Illinois has 7,000 units of government – far and away the highest of any state in the nation. Please contact your state lawmakers and urge them to support a series of bills that would provide residents and public officials with the legal tools needed to reduce the size of local and regional government. The BGA calls this, "Smart Streamlining." Right now, a series of bills are moving through the General Assembly that would make it easier to dissolve units of government if voters determine them to be too costly, redundant and outdated. Bills like these are often diluted before they become law – if they even get that far in the legislative process– so it’s important that we let our representatives know how vital it is to back efforts seeking to achieve smart, effective and more-responsive government. Will you email your elected officials and urge them to vote in favor of streamlining bills that provide residents and taxpayers a much greater say in reducing the size of government? |
