Support "Smart Streamlining" Bills to Modernize Government

Illinois has 7,000 units of government – far and away the highest of any state in the nation.

Please contact your state lawmakers and urge them to support a series of bills that would provide residents and public officials with the legal tools needed to reduce the size of local and regional government. The BGA calls this, "Smart Streamlining."

Right now, a series of bills are moving through the General Assembly that would make it easier to dissolve units of government if voters determine them to be too costly, redundant and outdated.  Bills like these are often diluted before they become law – if they even get that far in the legislative process– so it’s important that we let our representatives know how vital it is to back efforts seeking to achieve smart, effective and more-responsive government.
