Against a backdrop of incitement against Arab citizens and human rights activists, the latest examples of Israel’s “democratic recession” mark an increasing threat to Israel’s vibrant civil society. We read the news and are shocked by where we see the country heading. But Israelis are taking action to reclaim their democratic space and push back against this trend.

Over the past year, the New Israel Fund  has invested deeply in rebuilding the pro-democracy, progressive camp in Israel. Investing in the progressive ecosystem in Israel is essential – and we’ve seen it pay off. New initiatives alongside veteran organizations are already winning crucial new victories. What are the challenges that Israel faces in the coming year? And where will see successes for democracy and equality?

We invite you to join us for an "insider" lunch briefing with NIF’s Vice President for Public Engagement, Libby Lenkinski, to hear more about the bold and innovative steps NIF is taking to help our partners in Israel reclaim Israel’s founders’ liberal and democratic vision.

Libby Lenkinski is the Vice President for Public Engagement at the New Israel Fund, where she leads all aspects of NIF’s public efforts in the United States – including communications, digital, programs, events, leadership, community partnerships and engagement, New Generations and our fellowships. Prior to joining NIF, Libby lived and worked in the Israeli non-profit field for almost a decade. There she worked as Director of International Relations at the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) and as a strategy consultant for human rights organizations like Yesh Din and Physicians for Human Rights, for documentary films including Budrus and The Law in These Parts, and for progressive campaigns. She is a founding member of ZAZIM-Community Action and The Whistle. Currently, Libby serves on the board of Comet-ME, Hashomer Hatzair North America and is a NY co-chair for the Reboot Network. She is an advisor to +972 Magazine, an English-language online magazine bringing out progressive voices from Israel and Palestine, and #IfNotNow. Libby is based in Brooklyn and travels to Israel-Palestine frequently.
