Join NIF for a Happy Hour conversation with leaders of B'Tselem

Want to hear what civil society in Israel is doing to bring the issue of the Occupied territories to the public and change Israel's policy? Are you wondering how the results of recent elections will affect the situation in the Occupied territories?

Join us for a conversation with Hagai El-Ad and Chelsey Berlin of B'Tselem, one of  Israel's leading human rights organization.

Founded in 1989, B'Tselem documents human rights violations in the Occupied Territories, educates the Israeli public and policymakers about these issues and helps create a human rights culture in Israel. B'Tselem acts primarily to change Israeli policy in the Occupied territories and to ensure that the government protects the rights of residents there in compliance with its obligations under international law.

Hagai El-Ad is an Israeli human rights activist and the Executive Director of B'Tselem Israel. He recently completed a six-year term as Director of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), during which the organization spearheaded opposition to a wave of anti-democratic legislation and attacks on civil society in Israel. Hagai also served as the first Executive Director of the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance. Born in Haifa, Hagai completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Astrophysics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has published numerous articles on human rights issues in Israel and currently lives in Jerusalem.

Chelsey Berlin is the Director of B'Tselem USA. Previously, Chelsey served as a Dorot Fellow in Tel Aviv and also worked for several years at Tommorow's Youth Organization in Nablus directing a service-learning program that trained Americans to support Palestinian communities while developing important professional skills and a strong understanding of Palestinian society and community development. A native of Maine, Chelsey earned her BA in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies from Brandeis University.
