Human Rights series - Avner Gvaryahu of Breaking the Silence, June 3rd, 8:30am

We are pleased to host Avner Gvaryahu from Breaking the Silence for the second part of our three-part Human Rights in Israel series.

Please arrive by 8:30am. A light breakfast will be available at 8:15am.

Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran combatants who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. Since its Founding, Breaking the Silence has acquired a special standing in the eyes of the Israeli public and in the media, as it is unique in giving voice to the experience of soldiers. The organization recently published a report about last summer's war in Gaza.

Avner Gvaryahu is the Director of Public Outreach for Breaking the Silence. He served as a paratrooper in the Israel Defence Forces in 2004-2007 and became involved with Breaking the Silence shortly after his discharge. Born in a Religious Zionist family in Rechovot, Avner holds a BA in Social Work from Tel Aviv University and lives with his wife in Tel Aviv.
