Human Rights in Israel - a conversation with Hagai El-Ad of B'Tselem

In the background of recent elections in Israel and the formation of a new government, join us for a conversation with human rights activist and B'Tselem Executive Director, Hagai El-Ad, to discuss what civil society in Israel is doing to bring the issue of the Occupied Territories to the public and influence Israel's policy.

Hagai El-Ad is an Israeli human rights activist and the Executive Director of B'Tselem Israel. He recently completed a six-year term as Director of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), during which the organization spearheaded opposition to a wave of anti-democratic legislation and attacks on civil society in Israel. Hagai also served as the first Executive Director of the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance. Born in Haifa, Hagai completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Astrophysics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has published numerous articles on human rights issues in Israel and currently lives in Jerusalem.

Founded in 1989, B'Tselem documents human rights violations in the Occupied Territories, educates the Israeli public and policymakers about these issues, and helps create a human rights culture in Israel.  B'Tselem acts primarily to change Israeli policy in the Occupied Territories, and ensure that the government protects the rights of residents there in compliance with its obligations under international law. .
