Lunch with an Activist: Conference Call with Elana Golumbic

Take a Lunch Break and Call In!

Join NIF-New Generations' Jewish Your Way Campaign on Thursday, May 23 at 12:30pm EST to meet Elana Golumbic, North American representative of Kolech, a New Israel Fund grantee. Elana will discuss Kolech's vision as a feminist Orthodox alliance working for gender equality in Israel.

To receive call-in information, please RSVP below.

This call is the second of a four-part series that showcases activists of NIF grantee organizations who are working for religious pluralism in Israel, and explores the role of American Jews in the process of social change.

Elana Zion Golumbic is a Neuroscientist at Columbia University. Originally from Israel, she has volunteered for Kolech since 2004, particularly in organizing its young chapter of Kolech. Since moving to NY in 2008, Elana has been involved in Kolech's efforts to reach out to the US community and enhance the bi-national conversation around woman's issues in Orthodoxy. Elana lives on the Upper West side with her family, and will be returning to Israel this summer.

Kolech - Religious Women’s Forum is the first Orthodox Jewish feminist organization in Israel.  Kolech aims to increase public awareness and bring about change in Israeli religious society by:  disseminating the values of gender equality and mutual respect between men and women; encouraging equal opportunities for women in the public arena; initiating equal opportunity legislation that benefits all Jewish women in Israel; advancing women's rights and women’s leadership in religious and halachic (Jewish legal) spheres; encouraging greater equality for women in matters of personal status, such as marriage and divorce; and engaging in an uncompromising battle against all forms of gender violence.
