MK Horowitz began his career as a journalist, working at Haaretz and later at Channel 10 News. He transitioned to politics in 2008, serving in Knesset as a member of the Meretz Party since 2009, and is currently Chairman of the Knesset Committee of Foreign Workers and an active member of the Committee for Internal Affairs and the Committee for the Environment. Horowitz has brought an array of issues to the forefront of the political sphere, including civil equality, religious pluralism, environment and sustainability, and the fight to end homophobia. In 2013, he announced his candidacy for the October 22 Tel Aviv mayoral race; if he wins, he will become the first openly gay mayor in the Middle East.
