Resources and Materials Available for
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
June 15, 2019

Each year, an estimated 5 million older adults are abused, neglected, or exploited. Older Americans lose an estimated $2.6 billion or more annually due to elder financial abuse and exploitation, funds that could be used to pay for basic needs such as housing, food, and medical care. It is estimated that only one in five of these crimes are reported. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) serves as a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elders.

WEAAD Materials

Access the latest World Elder Abuse Awareness Day campaign materials available from the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) and ACL. This toolkit will help you commemorate WEAAD in your community. This Outreach Guide provides tips on how to have a successful event, picking a format for the event, and how to find more information on WEAAD.

For more ideas on how to participate and resources on elder abuse, visit the WEAAD website.

Please contact NCEA at 1-855-500-3537 or ncea-info@aoa.hhs.gov with any questions.

What do you have planned?

Let us know about your WEAAD activities and we will share them on the NORC website so Ombudsman programs across the country can hear about your work and gain new ideas.
