   FIND US ON

It’s not too late to make your 2014 contribution. Here are five great reasons to support the Pension Rights Center.

  1. We stand up for workers and retirees. Our staff is on the front lines fighting to ensure that pension promises are kept. One of our top priorities in 2015 will be reversing provisions in a new law that allow trustees of underfunded multiemployer plans to make unprecedented cuts to retirees’ pensions. This is wrong and must be overturned.

  2. We are the first to sound the alarm on important issues. As noted by Institutional Investor magazine – which listed us as a “Top 40” influencer in pension policy – the Center has been the first to alert policy makers and the public about new threats to retirement security “PRC was the first to sound the alarm on the dangers of pension de-risking, publishing fact sheets about lump-sum buyouts, annuity transfers and pension freezes.”

  3. We provide expert legal advice. Working with the Administration Aging's Pension Counseling and Information Program, the Center makes sure that people have the legal help they need to get the retirement benefits they have earned. Total recoveries for retirees helped by the Program are now approaching $200 million.

  4. We educate consumers about their rights. Our fact sheets, legal summaries, and new “Roadmap to Retirement” provide clear and helpful information to consumers who have questions about pensions and other retirement benefits. We also work with the media to help explain complicated retirement concepts to the public. In 2014, we were quoted in more than 140 news outlets.

  5. We work to expand retirement plan coverage. Currently 17 states have passed legislation or are considering new types of state-administered retirement savings programs that would expand coverage for private-sector workers. The Center has testified in state legislatures and provided technical assistance on many of these proposals. Nationally, the Center is promoting Senator Tom Harkin’s USA Retirement Funds Act, which was recently introduced into the House of Representatives.

Our work wouldn’t be possible without your support. The Center relies heavily on individual contributions so please donate today. Thank you!

P.S. If you’ve never donated to the Pension Rights Center, here’s one more reason to do so now: All donations from new supporters will be matched dollar for dollar by The Atlantic Philanthropies, doubling the impact of your gift!
