Join us on March 15th from 4 – 8pm for Salsa’s monthly Third Thursday happy hour at Mad Hatter in Dupont Circle. This month we will also have a presentation on “Everything you Wanted to Know about Spam but were Afraid to Ask”. Explore what Spam filters really are, how they work and what you can do to make sure you have the best chance of getting your email delivered to its intended destination.

Discussion topics include:

  • The history of email spam filters and how they work
  • Spam filters vs. black lists, what’s the difference?
  • Why some rules are out of your control and what to avoid
  • What to look for to see if you have problems
  • List growth and why organic is best

About Our Presenters
Brett Schenker has been involved with politics, technology, and databases for more than a decade. Originally hailing from Buffalo, New York, Brett moved to Arlington, Virginia in 2003 to serve as a Special Assistant to Senator John Kerry working on Capitol Hill. Brett went on to found 5B Consulting, which focuses on new media strategy, technology policy and database solutions. Now, he works for Salsa Labs as a technologist specializing in database management, social media and email deliverability.

Brenna Holmes has an extensive background in cross-channel marketing and advocacy integration. Her specialty is integrating traditional direct marketing with the social web and search to maximize supporter engagement and organizational loyalty. She oversees CCAH’s growing digital team, manages the company website, Industry Voices blog and social media accounts Facebook & Twitter.

Dolores McDonagh has more than 25 years experience helping individuals change the world — one donation at a time. As Membership VP at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, she led the organization’s online advocacy, fundraising and engagement efforts integrating e-newsletters, grass roots advocacy, social media campaigns, and online appeals. Dolores is currently VP of Consulting at Charity Dynamics, an online marketing agency that helps nonprofits leverage their technology to reach more people, raise more money and drive more engagement.
