As you all should know Salsa's backend is optimized for Firefox. There are a number of reasons for this, but the short of it was we needed to pick one browser to focus on. We picked Firefox because it's free, it works on all operating systems, it does a good job of following web standards, and a bunch of other reasons. But Firefox is great browser to use even if you weren't using Salsa.
One of Firefox's best features is the large number of add-ons available. Firefox add-ons do many different things. Each adds a bit of functionality to the browser allowing you to customize Firefox to fit your needs. From web developing to casual browsing, there is a probably an extension that will improve your browsing experience.
I took a poll of our office to see what extensions we are using. There are some great extensions here so take a look and see if one of these can solve your own browsing needs.
ColorZilla
A Colorpicker the grabs the hex values of any color on a website. One of the few features missing from Web Developer.
CookieSwap
Lets you have multiple cookie 'profiles'. Some of the support staff uses it to allow us to log into multiple organizations in Salsa, without having to log out of other. Also great to see exactly how a page will look to a user who isn't logged in as a manager, which out losing your own cookie.
Live HTTP Headers
We use it in the office to try and track down those pesky 'random' logouts.
NoScript
Disables most everything on the net but html, css and images. Handy if your security conscious, or surfing in disreputable corners of the net. Does have the downside that most of the net needs the very things this plug-in turns off, including much of Salsa.
OpenDownload
Allows you to open a file without having to save it to your desktop. IE/Windows might do this already.
PDF Download
View pdf documents in your browser, even convert them to text... sometimes.
Web Developer
A must have for any web developers. A large number of tools that, for me, now seem impossible to live with out. Can't recommend it enough and does way to much to explain here. You'll just have to try it out.
