Rightroots Bloody Roots

Though the "netroots" by which bloggers and readers of same vote with their wallets for particular Democratic party campaigns and organs has been for better or worse a prominent -- perhaps the prominent -- feature of the portside blogosphere for quite some time, it's been mostly notable for its absence across the aisle.
With control of congress suddenly a dogfight, though, a blue-ribbon panel of GOP spear-carriers yesterday unveiled a "Rightroots" that hadn't existed the day before. Not exactly the same way the progressive netroots evolved, but the right does its business differently.
Aaaaa!
There's something so horrible-yet-campy about that
vegetating pachyderm, it might have been left on Sam Raimi's cutting
room floor. All those bloody roots demand ...
Roooooooaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!
No, really, though. That dome-like visage surmounting a cluster of grasping tendrils ... we've seen that before:
And then there's the name.
"Rightroots." A hard, alliterative cadence, like rat-a-tat-tat. And that pairing of "right" and "roots," so redolent of conservativsm's unsavory strain of Vaterland nativism. (It practically pleads for the sobriquet "Reichroots".) The web 2.0 version of rightroots might be a fresh vintage, but the label has a history, no?
