P2P Fundraising Beta Test Through Marla Ruzicka's CIVIC
01:30 PM Apr 20, 2006
There are causes one works with in which one becomes uncommonly
involved. We pause this week to recognize the Campaign for Innocent
Victims In Conflict (CIVIC). Our Executive Director, April Pedersen,
recently sent this to some of us:
On the road from the Baghdad airport one year ago this week, my dear
friend, Marla Ruzicka, was killed by a suicide bomber while advocating
on behalf of victims of the war.
Before she died, I promised to keep CIVIC going should anything happen
to her.
April made good that promise and, heroically contemptuous of sleep,
wore the E.D. hat for both DemocracyInAction and CIVIC for much of last year while a
leadership search took place. She remains deeply involved as a CIVIC
board member.
CIVIC launched its new website
this week and is engaged in "a week-long advocacy campaign to raise
awareness about the human dimension of war and give a voice to people
in Iraq and Afghanistan whose lives have been devastated by the
continued violence."
You can see the full slate of actions at the CIVIC homepage.
DIA users may be particularly interested by today's: "Help fundraise
to aid victims of war." Yes, DIA is beta-testing live peer-to-peer
donation pages through this CIVIC action. April's own personal donation
page for her $5,000 goal is located here.
